Chapter 14

Rumpelstiltskin

I wasn’t sure if I would kill my son the moment I caught him, or if I would turn him into a toad and throw him in the backyard. I wasn’t stupid. I knew it was Robin Hood who helped him and Cinderella escape. I shouldn’t have waited to kill her. What was I thinking? Rookie mistake. I had Neverland heavily guarded now, so if they were going back there, they wouldn’t get far without being apprehended, and this time, they would be bound by magic. I had surveillance cameras installed in every nook and cranny of this town, and even in Oz. Wherever they were, we were going to find them.

I finally made it to Lady Tremaine’s house so we could discuss a game plan regarding our nitwit children moving forward. When I pulled up, she was standing outside with authorities, and she looked like she might strangle someone at any second.

“Find it!” she yelled at the police officer. I could see her veins popping out, even from my car.

“What’s going on?” I interrupted them.

“President Rumpelstiltskin.” The officer removed his hat, placed it on his heart, and bowed a little.

“My plane has been stolen,” Tremaine huffed.

Of course I knew exactly who was responsible for this. “Officer, we can take it from here.” I ordered him to leave, and once he was gone, explained my suspicions to Lady Tremaine.

“So our kids took the plane?”

Her eyebrows sunk and her lips curled. “You really think it was Cinder and Peter?”

“And that filthy child Robin.”

“Cinder’s a little brat sometimes, but he’d never disobey me to this length.”

“Get your act together, Tremaine. Who else would know how to work around your castle and security?”

She gave me a sideways look, signaling to me she knew I was right. “So, what do we do?”

“We find them.” My security cameras would do no good here, since they clearly fled the country. “One second.” I took my phone out, dialed the guard at Neverland, and waited for him to answer. While I waited, Tremaine used many colorful words to describe how she felt about Cinder being involved in all this. “You haven’t seen any small planes flying over or into Neverland, have you?” He told me no and I hung the phone up without saying goodbye.

“Nothing?” she asked me.

“No.”

“So, what do we do, Rump?” she snapped.

“Don’t get snappy with me, Tremaine.”

I told her to contact every country overseas and have their pictures plastered everywhere, then I left.

I couldn’t believe Peter had gone to those lengths to defy me. He’s dead to me. I no longer wanted him as my son. “He’s useless and he’s filth, just like his little friend.” I felt a twinge of guilt the moment the words left my mouth. It reminded me of the time I ran away from home when I was twelve to escape from the abusive clutches of my mother. I made it all the way to Oz before I was finally caught. I received a beating even I wouldn’t give, leaving me with broken ribs, a cracked skull, and a black eye that was swollen shut for days.
